Grimoire tights yay!

I just received my Stained Glass tights from the Grimoire Verum line and they are so pretty!

In other news, I am getting ready to leave for Xmas holidays! I am flying back to Greece on Thursday and will be back on the 3rd of January. And on the 13th of January I am going to Disney World, Florida!!
Mark is going there for the IBM Lotusphere conference, so I thought that for once I should tag along! The conference takes place within Disney World, so we are staying in one of the resorts there (can't remember if it's the Dolphin or the Swan one...)

I am really busy with studying though, so I will do my best to finish a chapter while I am in Greece and then write a seminar paper while I am in Disney World. So that's it, instead of making New Year's resolutions, I am making these two December 20. resolutions that I am gonna stick with through Xmas and beyond... *determined*.

Speaking of Disney, I was at the Disney Store in London yesterday shopping for presents and they had so many nice displays! I hadn't been in ages, and it has really improved, it made me not want to leave!

I also got some good news today, I had submitted an abstract for an international conference that will take place in Aarhus, Denmark, in August and I got an email today that it got accepted, so I am quite happy about that. It only takes place once every three years, and when I attended the last one I was in the very early stages of my PhD, so I didn't feel confident enough to give a paper. A lot of my friends will be speaking there too, so I am quite looking forward to it!

Don't think I have any recent outfit shots, but here's an accessory shot of my latest favourite ring, AP's Night Carnival

Hope everyone has a very lovely Christmas! xxx

Hope you have a good Christmas x

Ikr? I love all the tights from the series (wish I had gotten some more...)
I will try & update my LJ with pics when I am in Disney World, if I don't end up spending all my time there studying...
Hope you have a lovely Christmas too! :)

DISNEYLAND!!! *__* I'm so excited for you!!
How are the tights fit/thickness?

I KNOW!!! Thank you <3
I have never been to Disney World or Disneyland before so I am really excited about it!

The tights fit ok, I'd say that they are pretty much like a UK size M. They say they are 80 denier, but they feel more like 40-60 den to me. I am still considering cutting them to stockings, so the print looks more opaque on my upper legs. I think anyone over 5'6" may have a problem, but up to that height they seem ok!

Wow the tights are cool! I'd like to buy them, but can't really justify spending the money at the moment, so maybe another time. Let us know how they are. :)

I've never been to Disney World before. Are you going to the Harry Potter thing in Universal Studio? I wanna go there!!

Congrats on your conference paper! :D I can't submit any abstracts cos I don't know what I'll be doing at all in a few months time, as I might not be in academia by next summer/autumn. I suppose I can always submit something and just withdraw it if I can't go anymore, but then feel like that would be a waste of time for both the reviewers and myself. :/ I do miss going to conferences!

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year in Greece! :) Good luck with getting work done, but hope you will get to relax as well!

The tights turned out fine thankfully, though I may end up cutting them to stockings! I just hope they will be durable and that I won't get a ladder the first time I wear them out O.o

I am not sure if I am going to the Harry Potter thingy - My husband will be staying at the conference within Disney World and working most of the time, and they went to the HP thing last year (during the same conference). So if I want to go, I will have to go alone ;_;

Thanks re the conference! I know what you mean though, I'm the same way... if I feel that I am not gonna have the time to write a paper, I'd rather avoid committing to it rather than have to cancel later :/ And I am so confused about whether I can stay in academia after my PhD or whether I will be better off getting a regular job... Do you have any plans for after your PhD?

Turn them into stocking? How do you do that? I do hope they will be durable as they aren't cheap! I do like printed tights, but then I'm a bit iffy buying them cos I think they look best on skinny legs and am afraid they would make my legs look bigger! XD

You can't convince your husband to go again? XD

Haha I have to say there were times I didn't end up writing a whole paper for my presentations. XD I mean I did the PowerPoint, but I didn't end up writing up everything. But regardless it still takes time and effort, so best to be sure before signing up. :/ How is it in your field? I would imagine it's more specialised, so you would need to be in academia to continue doing something related to what you do? Do you hae publication/plan to publish? Social science is more general, so I guess I have more opportunities to apply my general knowledge outside of academia, in that sense it gives me more options in job searching. I would like to stay in HE, but things just don't look promising at the moment. :/ I've only applied for a few things in the last 6 months, so I can't really say how it is really out there for me but the competition definitely seems fierce from what I have seen and have heard from others, even for short term research contracts. :/ I'd like to at least stay doing research even if not in academia, so at least I can develop further generic/transferable research skills so I could still go back to academia in future if I choose to.

Hmmm I don't know yet about the stocking thing, but I have seen tutorials floating around on how to do it without ruining them. I will obviously try it on a regular pair first, so there are no tears...

Nah, I doubt my husband would go again. The conference is serious business for him so I think he will be busy 24/7 (but I am not complaining, I'd be the same if I was going for a conference!)

Ah see, I never use power point, so I have to have a paper all written out! Some people can wing it, but I think I'd get too nervous!

I guess it's up to the person what they do with their degrees. Yeah, mine is a bit too specialized and getting an academic job was my dream & goal when I started... Many people though end up doing translation or interpreting work etc. But that's not something I am interested in. I'd rather have a regular dayjob at the library really (though I will probably try and get a postdoc placement at some point and keep my options open...)

That's good that you have more job options! Though it's true that right now things are not ideal in most fields, and especially education... I can imagine the competition :/

Haha right, don't want to mess up such expensive tights! :O

Ah I see, fair enough! It's sometimes nice to go explore on your own though, cos then you are free to do whatever you want!

Really? I guess maybe different fields are different, I always use PowerPoint, though I hate people who put so much text on the slides that it's impossible to read, or distract people from actually hearing the talk. I definitely wrote my paper at my first few ones, but then I got lazy and just 'wing it' as I got more confident I guess. XD

I see, that's fair enough. I do hope you can stay in academia! Would you need a library/information management degree/diploma to work in higher up jobs in the library though? Or is that specialist library so they value your knowledge more rather than the technical skills?

I'm hoping I'll have a better idea about things early next year, so many things like pay, advancement opportunities, work-life balance, stability, to figure out and consider which way to go. >_< Bah! Well good luck to you!

Yay Disneyland :DDDD
I am so happy for you for getting accepted to talk (I assume you're giving a talk?) at the conference! I went to my first conference a few days ago (I didn't give a talk or anything though) so I know how big of a deal it is to be accepted as a speaker. Congratulations <3
Also this sounds stupid but your picture of your tights made me so relieved that I bought the same ones, because otherwise I would be extraordinarily jealous! They're so pretty *_____* (Is it weird to compliment an item of clothing that we both have?)

Thank you so much Antonia! Yup, I am gonna give a paper :)
Oooh, did you enjoy your conference? I love going to conferences when I don't have to give a paper, just sit and listen to everyone else's papers with no stress ha ha.

I am sure you will love the tights, they are perfect! And nope, I don't think it's weird, I often fawn over & compliment other people's stuff that I also have XD

I think the fit is fine - not ideal - but not tiiiiny either. Kinda like a European M I guess?

I hope you have a merry Xmas too, I am looking forward to reading your blog entries from your trip to Japan xx

Aahhh I know, ETC re-released so many cute chocolate stuff (including that awesome chocolate bar dress)!! I got really tempted at first when I saw them on the blog, but now I think I am just gonna save my money, since I managed to get the AP Royal Chocolate socks a while ago and I still haven't worn them >.

Aaaahhhh I hope I don't end up ripping these too soon! I am the same, sometimes I rip tights even when I am putting them on and before I go out. If that happens with these, I will cry :|
Thank you so much, I hope you have a fantastic Christmas too! <3
